Sona Systems integration guide

Article by Ben Howell

Sona Systems is an online tool used by more than 1400 universities to manage their own research participant pool, and allows participants to sign up for studies.

Adding Sona Systems as a participant source

By default, new studies are set to use a Public participant source. We can choose to change this source or add a new one. In this example we'll be changing the Public source to Sona Systems but we could just as easily add it as a new source (thus keeping the public source).

Figure 1. Participant source settings

Figure 1. Participant source settings
  1. Navigate to Distribution and then Participants (Figure 1).
  2. Click on the Public participant source and select Sona Systems from the menu (Figure 2). The study link should look something like this:
    https://www.psychstudio.com/s/460?psref=sona&id=%SURVEY_CODE%
  3. Go to your study on Sona Systems and paste the study link into the Study URL field. There should now be a field called "Psychstudio Completion URL".
  4. Paste the Psychstudio Completion URL from Sona Systems into the Completion link field on Psychstudio (Figure 3). The completion link should look something like this:
    https://yourschool.sona-systems.com/webstudy_credit.aspx?experiment_id=123&credit_token=4e48f9b638a
  5. Click Save. (Figure 3).

Now all participants who arrive from Sona Systems will be automatically recognised and when their study is complete, will be redirected back to Sona Systems to be awarded credit or marked as complete.
